WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue Baseball’s first of four home midweek dates this month features Bradley’s debut at Alexander Field as the two teams square off for the first time in 15 years.

First pitch is set for 6 p.m. ET. It’s the fifth of nine midweek games at Alexander Field this season, all of which feature $3 deals on hot dogs, beers and popcorn plus $5 general admission tickets.

The Braves are set to become the third of five first-time visitors at Alexander this season – joining Oregon, Oakland City, Southern Indiana and Murray State. They’re led by first-year head coach Justin Dedman, a Central Illinois native whose road to becoming a head coach included stops at Ole Miss, Austin Peay, Denison, Lee, Miami (Ohio), Missouri and Loyola Marymount. Purdue alum and current assistant coach Barrett Serrato replaced Dedman on the coaching staff at Lee (Cleveland, Tenn.) after Dedman helped Lee make five NAIA/NCCAA World Series appearances.

Purdue’s final non-conference weekend of the 2011 season featured a home-and-home series with Bradley – with the Saturday game in Peoria getting canceled due to inclement weather. The home team won both games that did get played. Earlier this season, the Boilermakers played another BU – Baylor – for the first time in 18 years. Purdue won that game in comeback fashion, overcoming a 5-0 deficit to win 6-5 on a walk-off single from Westin Boyle on day 2 of the Round Rock Classic. The Boilermakers have also overcome deficits of at least five runs in victories at Michigan State (8-1) and Illinois (5-0) the last two weekends.

Freshman Noah Filer is set to make his first collegiate start on the mound Tuesday. He’ll become the seventh Purdue pitcher to start a game this season and the first freshman pitcher since Joe Trenerry on Feb. 23 last season. Currently serving as the team’s staff ace and Friday starter, Cole Van Assen was the last Boilermaker to start on the mound at Alexander as a freshman. Van Assen made six midweek starts at Alexander in 2024.

Filer worked at least two innings in three of his first nine appearances this season, earning a save with three innings of one-hit relief in the nightcap of the Feb. 28 doubleheader vs. Marist. He also excelled in his last midweek outing, working 2 1/3 innings of one-hit relief in the 3-2 win vs. Valparaiso on March 24.

Purdue is 9-4 at home and 4-2 in midweek action. The Boilermakers are currently in the midst of a stretch of seven consecutive games against teams from the state of Illinois.
