Austin Karr joined Purdue as a defensive graduate assistant in February 2023. He primarily works with the cornerbacks.
Karr spent the 2022 campaign as a defensive intern at Minnesota, working under current Purdue defensive line coach Brick Haley. He assisted a defensive unit that ranked second in third down defense (26.2%) and fourth in scoring defense (13.3 ppg).
Prior to arriving in the Big Ten, Karr served as defensive and special teams quality control at Weber State. The San Jose, California, native spent one season working with the outside linebackers and another with the cornerbacks. While Karr was there, Weber State led the Big Sky Conference in scoring defense, passing yards allowed and third down defense. He also helped the team capture the 2020 Big Sky Championship.
Karr coached and played defensive back for the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia from 2019-20, helping the team finish 10-2. Before going to Australia, he spent the offseason on Colorado’s strength and conditioning staff.
Born and raised in San Jose, California, Karr graduated from Gonzaga University in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry. Following graduation, he began his coaching career at Bellarmine College Prep in San Jose.
