Purdue Lands 77 on Winter Academic All-Big Ten Teams

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – A record 77 winter sport Purdue student-athletes were named to the Academic All-Big Ten Team for posting grade point average of 3.0 or better.

The total topped the previous record of 72 set last year. It marked the third straight winter campaign with 70 or more honorees from Purdue. The Boilermakers are now up to 124 total student-athletes on the fall and winter all-academic teams combined.

Trey Kaufman-Renn from men’s basketball and Hayden Filipovich from wrestling earned the honor for the fourth time in their career. Fifteen student-athletes garnered the recognition for the third time in their careers, 22 were two-time recipiences and 38 made their debut on the academic list.

Women’s swimming and diving topped the charts with 27 honorees, bettering its total by one from last year. Men’s swimming and diving tallied 22 recipients.

Sophomore swimmer Caroline Frazier was one of 30 student-athletes across the Big Ten to have a perfect 4.0 GPA.

To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, students must be on a varsity team (as verified by being on the official squad list as of March 1 for fall sports), have been enrolled full time at the institution for a minimum of 12 months and carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.

The Big Ten Conference had 1,127 total student-athletes recognized on the Academic All-Big Ten list. The list of honorees includes 83 men’s and 119 women’s basketball students, 98 men’s ice hockey students, 59 men’s and 146 women’s gymnastics students, 154 men’s and 251 women’s swim and dive students, and 217 wrestling students.
