WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue women’s basketball team will close out 2025 on New Year’s Eve with a 12:30 p.m. clash against No. 19 Ohio State. Jason Ross Jr. and Christy Winters Scott will be on the call for the Big Ten Network.

Purdue dropped their first game at Mackey Arena this season in an 83-73 decision to Illinois. The Boilermakers put four players in double figures, led by Kendall Puryear’s career-high 20 points. The sophomore scored 12 straight points in the fourth quarter to power the Boilermakers’ comeback bid that came just short.
The Boilermakers are going for their first ranked win since the 2022-23 season, when they knocked off No. 2 Ohio State 73-65, for the first true road AP Top-5 win in program history. Madison Layden-Zay tallied seven rebounds, three assists and 10 points, including a clutch jumper in the lane to put Purdue ahead for good in the fourth quarter.

GAME NOTES
• The Boilermakers are 5-5 all-time on New Year's Eve. Purdue last played on Dec. 31 in 2019 when it defeated Wisconsin 72-61 at Mackey Arena.
• Hila Karsh continued her recent run of form with her fourth straight game in double figures with 11 points, averaging 12.3 points per game during the stretch. Karsh ranks fifth among Big Ten freshmen with 10.5 points per game and leads league rookies with 21 made 3-pointers this season.
• Madison Layden-Zay recorded her third career complete game against the Illini. After a year off, the fifth year is 11th in the Big Ten in minutes played at 32.2 per game.
• Layden-Zay continues to shoot the three at a career-best 42.4% this season, good for 10th in the Big Ten. The Kokomo, Ind., native is one of four Big Ten players to average better than 9.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.0 3-pointers and 1.5 steals per game.
• Playing through illness against the Illini, Kiki Smith managed six points, snapping a three-game run of double-digit performances. Smith is second on the team this season with 11.7 points per game and 21 made 3-pointers.
• Tara Daye's continues to set career highs during her ifrst year at Purdue with 12.2 points and 7.1 rebounds per game with four double-doubles on the year, good for fourth in the Big Ten. Daye is one of four Big Ten guards to average better than 12 points and 7.0 rebounds per night this season.
• Purdue is 8-1 at Mackey Arena this season, averaging 82.8 points per game, while holding opponents to 58.6 per outing. The Boilermakers matched their best start at home under Katie Gearlds (2023-24) with eight straight wins.
• Purdue is 4-0 this season when dishing out 20 assists and 25-1 under Katie Gearlds when hitting that number.
