OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. – The Purdue men’s golf team shot a 12-over par 292 to finish the first round in 13th place at the Fighting Illini / Olympia Fields Invitational held at Olympia Fields Country Club in suburban Chicago.
Texas Tech leads after 18 holes at 1-under par 279, while eight other teams are within seven shots of the leading-Red Raiders. Purdue is six shots behind ninth-place Arizona State, and within shouting distance of Georgia Tech (+7), Texas (+8) and Stanford (+11). Indiana (+13) and Baylor (+15) round out the field.
Leading the Boilermakers was Sam Easterbrook at even-par 70, good for a 14th-place tie. Easterbrook was 2-under par through 13 holes, but suffered two bogeys over the last five holes to fall to even-par.
Sophomore Supapon Amornchaichan is tied for 41st at 3-over par 73. It marks the 18th straight round of 75 or better for Amornchaichan dating to last season.
Freshman Will Harvey is tied for 52nd at 4-over par 74. Harvey was even-par through nine holes, but had bogeys on four of his last eight holes.
Andre Zhu is tied for 62nd at 5-over par 75, while Kentaro Nanayama is tied for 72nd at 7-over par 77.
Playing as an individual, Jenson Forrester is tied for 41st at 3-over par 73.
Purdue will be paired with Indiana and Baylor in round two, teeing off at 10 a.m. ET, off hole No. 10.
