Purdue Begins Second Week of Fall Camp

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue Football returned to the practice field to begin week two of fall camp on Monday (Aug. 4).

While rebuilding the roster under head coach Barry Odom, the offense had a clear plan of building size at the tight ends position. The Purdue offense, run by offensive coordinator and tight ends coach Josh Henson, has an average tight end height of six feet, 5.7 inches and average weight of 249.8 pounds.

“It’s a big group," said Henson. "We’ve got to use our size and impose our size on the other side of the line of scrimmage. That has to be an advantage for us for the size that we have.”

George Burhenn, one of two returning Boilermakers at tight end, carries a 6-foot-5, 235-pound frame and is impressed with the size and athleticism of his unit.

"We have the size," said Burhenn. "Christian Earls (6-foot-8, 280 pounds) is huge. He's one of the biggest tight ends I've ever seen... We can all run routes too which can be matchup nightmares."

Christian Moore uses his 6-foot-3, 250-pound frame in a unique way as a hybrid fullback and tight end throughout his five-year collegiate career between UNLV and Kansas State.

"That fullback role is being that tough guy doing whatever it takes for the offense," said Moore. "The more you show your versatility, the more you can be used in different ways."

“It’s really fun for me to know him early in his career and see where he’s progressed to as a coach. He’s improved tremendously and, man, it’s fun to watch.”

After an injury-plagued 2024 season and an injury during 2025 spring practice, Burhenn looks to get back to form during fall camp.

"It was definitely an unfortunate circumstance but it's the cards I was dealt," said Burhenn. "All I could think of was that I just want to play. I had a long road ahead of me, but I'm here now."

Across his first two seasons in West Lafayette, Burhenn has six catches for 77 yards and a touchdown in 15 games played.
