Purdue Completes First Practice in Full Pads

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue Football held its first fall camp session in full pads on Thursday (Aug. 7).

Head coach Barry Odom will address the media every Thursday practice for the remainder of the fall camp schedule. He expressed his pleasure with the progress through the first full week of camp.

"Looking top to bottom, in all three phases, we got better today," said Odom. "Through six days, we’ve gotten better every day. Today was by far our best day."

Thursday's practice in full pads provided the coaching staff with a peek into the expectations for Saturday's first scrimmage of fall camp.

"Offensively I want to be able to take care of the ball, move the ball and execute on third downs," said Odom. "Defensively I want to align, assisgn, work on snap footwork, eye discipline, communication and pursuit to the ball. On special teams we need to have great get-off and protection on punts. On extra points and field goals we need to be 100-percent in snap, hold, protection and kicking."

The Boilermakers will wrap up its weekday training on Friday before its scrimmage on Saturday that is closed to the public and media.

"The process is starting to take over. The habits are starting to show up."
