First Meeting: Purdue 9, Ball State 7 (April 1930 in West Lafayette)
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The middle game of Purdue Baseball's nine-game April homestand features a pair of hot teams with identical 23-13 overall records as the Boilermakers host Ball State for a $3 midweek matchup.
First pitch at Alexander Field has been moved up to 4 p.m. ET due to rain in the forecast after sundown. The original start time was 6 p.m. General admission tickets, hot dogs, beer, popcorn and nachos are specially priced at $3 for all Tuesday and Wednesday games at Alexander.
Both teams come in playing well – the Boilermakers have won seven of their last eight and the Cardinals are winners of 11 of their last 12.
Purdue is riding a seven-game win streak in Big Ten Conference play but it goes on hold now until the final weekend of the month. The Boilermakers' final five games of the homestand are non-conference contests, including a three-game set vs. ETSU during the annual open weekend in league play. They've surged into second place in the Big Ten standings and play last-place Northwestern next weekend. But Purdue has not won a non-conference game since sweeping a doubleheader vs. Samford on March 16.
Ball State has wins against Michigan State and Illinois this year. Similar to the Boilers, BSU started Mid-American Conference play slow at 1-7, but sweeps of Ohio and Akron have powered a 9-1 surge in league play. The Cardinals have also won their last three midweek games.
