THE NOTES TO KNOW
• After a successful, season-long roadswing, the No. 2-ranked Purdue Boilermakers return home to face one of the Big Ten's top offenses as Michigan visits Mackey Arena. The Boilermakers are aiming for their fourth straight victory overall and their 11th straight home victory.
• This week is Coaches vs. Cancer week, where Purdue will return to the Suits and Sneakers format. The Boilermaker coaching staff will wear suits in games against Michigan and Rutgers paired with Nike Air Max 87. Since CoVid, the Purdue staff has gone more casual in its attire.
• In addition, Purdue has raised money for cancer research, via messages on its warm-up shirts and ribbon boards and the auctioning off of special, game-worn Hammer Down Cancer uniforms. All proceeds go to the Purdue Institute of Cancer Research. This marks the fourth time Purdue has won special Hammer Down Cancer uniforms, using the Institute's signature VOLT color to raise awareness of its mission. The Coaches vs. Cancer week initiatives by Purdue Basketball has raised $165,000 to date, not including this season.
• Purdue has played five of its first eight Big Ten games on the road and lead the Big Ten with three road wins. Purdue, Wisconsin and Illinois are the only teams in the Big Ten with multiple wins on the road in league play. Big Ten teams are a combined 14-38 (.269) entering Tuesday.
• The Boilermakers are 17-2 (or better) through 19 games for the second straight season. It marks the third time in Matt Painter's 19 seasons that Purdue has been 17-2 or better (2024, 2023, 2018), all coming in the last seven seasons. Over the last three seasons, Purdue is 56-6 in months November through January. A win will make Purdue 18-2 (or better) for the fourth time ever (2024, 2023, 2018, 1988).
• Following its loss to Nebraska on Jan. 9, Purdue has averaged 88.7 points per game in its three wins, while shooting 49.5 percent from the field and 39.1 percent from 3-point range and outrebounding opponents by almost 18 rebounds per game. Purdue's offensive efficiency in that span is 129.4 (129.4 points / 100 possessions).
• Purdue's +26 rebound margin (50-24) vs. Iowa was its largest against a Big Ten opponent since Jan. 24, 2020, vs. Wisconsin (+26). It was also the fifth-largest for Purdue against a Big Ten opponent in school history.
