TV ANNOUNCERS: Jon Sciambi, Cory Alexander

THE NOTES TO KNOW
• Purdue improved to 6-0 with a 75-56 win over No. 8 Duke in the Phil Knight Legacy Championship game in Portland. Purdue is now 6-0 for the second straight season after last year's team started 8-0 and rose to No. 1 in the national rankings. Purdue is 6-0 (or better) for the second straight year for the first time since the 1992-93 (9-0 start; Matt Painter's senior year) and 1993-94 (14-0 start) seasons.
• With the win over Duke, Purdue became the second team ever and the first since 1968 UCLA to win back-to-back neutral-site games by 18 or more points against top-10 ranked teams. UCLA's occurrence happened in the NCAA Tournament played in Los Angeles. It also marked the first time in school history that Purdue has defeated top 10-ranked non-conference opponents in back-to-back games.
• Purdue has won two straight MTE tournaments, with four of the five wins coming against teams ranked in the top 18. Last season, Purdue defeated No. 18 North Carolina and No. 5 Villanova in the Hall of Fame Tipoff and defeated West Virginia, No. 6 Gonzaga and No. 8 Duke in this year's Phil Knight Legacy.
• Purdue can claim America's best resume, owning a nation's-best four top-100 KenPom wins and three top-50 wins. All four of Purdue's top-100 wins have come against teams ranked in the top 60 (Marquette - 58; West Virginia - 28; Gonzaga - 9; Duke - 20), all in the last four games.
• Appearing at No. 5 in the AP Top 25, Purdue has been ranked in the top 5 in consecutive years for the first time since 1986-87 and 1987-88. The Boilermakers have spent 13 of the past 23 AP polls ranked in the top 5. Only Gonzaga (22) has spent more time in the top 5 than Purdue.
• Purdue has won 13 straight games in the month of November, dating to an 81-70 loss on Nov. 26, 2020, vs. Clemson in the title game of the Space Coast Challenge. The 13-game November win streak is the second-longest in the country (Arizona - 23).
• Purdue has won a nation's-best 19 straight regular-season, non-conference games, dating to a Dec. 8, 2020, setback to Miami (Fla.), 58-54.
• Purdue improved to 150-12 under Painter when scoring at least 80 points, including 64-2 since the start of the 2017-18 season. Purdue has won 42 straight games when scoring at least 80 points.
• No team has shot better than 42 percent from the field against Purdue in its six games this year. West Virginia is the best so far at 41.3 %.
• Purdue has made 99 free throws this season, while opponents have shot just 65.
Zach Edey was named the Phil Knight Legacy MVP after averaging 22.7 points and 10.3 rebounds per game in Portland. He recorded his fifth straight 20-point game with 21 points and 12 rebounds. He is the first Boilermaker with five straight 20-point games since Carsen Edwards in 2018-19 (6 games), and his 72 rebounds through six games equal the most for a Purdue player since Joe Barry Carroll had 85 in 1977-78.
• Through Monday, Zach Edey ranks No. 1 in the KenPom POY ratings by a significant margin and has been the game MVP in all six Purdue games so far this year. Purdue has had a top-10 KenPom player in 5 of the last 7 seasons. Edey ranks 9th in the country in scoring, 4th in rebounding and 21st in blocked shots per game.
• Since the start of last season against 11 ranked teams, Edey is averaging 17.4 points and 8.0 rebounds per game (74-of-123 FGs; 60.2 %).
Ethan Morton was named to the Phil Knight Legacy all-tournament team after averaging 4.7 points, 4.0 rebounds and 6.3 assists per game. Morton currently has a 4.43 (31 / 7) assist-to-turnover ratio and had 19 assists against one turnover in Portland.
Fletcher Loyer was named the Big Ten's Freshman of the Week after averaging 16.0 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in wins over Gonzaga and Duke. Loyer is ninth in the country among freshmen in 3-pointers per game (2.50).
• Purdue has won back-to-back Big Ten Freshman of the Week awards after Braden Smith won it on Nov. 21 (20 pts., 3 asts. vs Marquette).
Matt Painter needs 10 overall victories to become the fifth coach in Big Ten history with 400 victories while at a conference school (Bob Knight, Tom Izzo, Gene Keady, Lou Henson).
