Teams to play 12 innings regardless of score

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue baseball will take the field in its home white pinstripes Saturday, welcoming Dayton back to Alexander Field for the second time this year for a 12-inning fall ball exhibition game.

First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. and the teams are planning to play 12 innings regardless of the score. Admission is free for all fall ball events at Alexander Field. Fans are invited to bring their own concessions in the fall.

The Boilermakers visited Louisville two weekends ago for their first of two fall ball exhibition games. Dayton is scheduled to play at Michigan on Oct. 22 for its second exhibition of the fall.

Paul Toetz and Sam Franco both went deep Sept. 25 at Louisville. Cam Thompson connected for a pair of extra-base hits as part of a four-hit afternoon in the 14-inning exhibition. Toetz finished with three hits and Franco had three RBI.

Purdue's draft-eligible pitchers threw Tuesday for Scout Day at Alexander and are likely to get at least an inning each Saturday vs. the Flyers.

On a warm, 60-degree afternoon on March 15, the Boilermakers rode an eight-run fourth inning to an 11-2 victory vs. Dayton. It was the first of six midweek games at Alexander this past spring. Surprisingly, it was also the first-ever matchup between the two programs. Purdue improved to 15-0 with the victory to remain the only undefeated team nationally at the time.

Among active Boilermakers, Mike Bolton Jr. (1-for-3, BB, RBI, 2 R, SB), CJ Valdez (BB, HBP, RBI, R) and Thompson (1-for-3, BB, RBI, 2 R) all reached base safely multiple times in the March victory. In their Alexander Field debuts, Carter Doorn and Logan Danzeisen teamed up to work the ninth inning and close out the victory.

The rosters for Purdue's Black & Gold Series will be selected Oct. 18 or 19 before the three-game intrasquad begins Thursday, Oct. 20.
