WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Summer ball and collegiate wood bat leagues provide players with an opportunity to take the field and returning members of Purdue baseball are slated to play in leagues across the eastern half of the country.
Many leagues started as early as May 30 or June 1. June brings with it the sights and scents of summer as baseball weather in all its glory also arrives with the summer months.
Khal Stephen struck out 10 over five innings of two-hit relief in a home win for the Danville Dans in the June 1 opening night action in the Prospect League. He's one of five returning Boilermakers slated to play in the Prospect League, which is also home to the Lafayette Aviators.
Mike Bolton Jr. is slated to play for the Pulaski River Turtles of the Appalachian League, which is now part of Prospect Development Pipeline co-sponsored by Major League Baseball and USA Baseball. The Appalachian League was part of Minor League Baseball for more than 100 years before the restructuring that took place in 2020.
Carter Doorn and Ty Gill are slated to be teammates this summer for the Lima Locos of the Great Lakes Leagues. They'll play for head coach Matthew Furuto, the younger brother of Purdue assistant coach Daniel Furuto (who is also a former skipper for Lima).
