WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Powered in part by Ryan Howe's three-run double, the Black Team raced out to another early lead and was a 6-2 winner in the rubber game of Purdue baseball's Black & Gold Series on Saturday at Alexander Field.
The Black Team pounded out 10 hits in the six-inning contest and took control early with a 6-0 lead after the second inning. Jake Parr delivered a run-scoring hit in the first inning for the second day in a row and Howe cleared the bases with his three-run double off the center field wall the following frame. Mike Bolton Jr. scored from first base on the big hit.
After Kyle Wade worked a 1-2-3 first inning for the Black Team, Ricky Castro and Zach Fletcher backed him up by each pitching two scoreless innings of relief, both retiring six of the seven batters they faced.
Eric Hildebrand worked three innings of scoreless relief for the Gold Team, striking out four. But the Gold Team was limited to just two base runners until registering three singles in the final frame.
Fans are invited back to Alexander Field on Thursday, Oct. 28 for the program's Halloween Bash, which features a players costume scrimmage followed by an on-field trick-or-treat. It's a free event open to all ages. Fans are encouraged to attend dressed in costumes.
