Saturday is Hammer Down Cancer Day. Season-ticket holders who have beaten cancer or currently are fighting the fight and their guests will form the pregame fan tunnel. The Tyler Trent Student Gate will be dedicated at 10 a.m.

BTN Tailgate will originate from the Sally & Bob Weist Plaza - site of the Boilermaker Crossing pregame fan event - from 10 a.m. to noon. Hosted by Dave Revsine, Gerry DiNardo, Howard Griffith and Michelle McMahon, BTN Tailgate is the home for Big Ten football fans on Saturday mornings with original features, special guests and Big Ten analysis live from campus. Boilermaker Crossing will open at 9 a.m.

Fans can welcome the Boilermakers to Ross-Ade when they arrive at the corner of Joe Tiller Drive and John R. Wooden Drive at 9:45 a.m. Saturday.

On the field, freshman defensive end George Karlaftis, from West Lafayette, had an outstanding collegiate debut in the season opener at Nevada on Aug. 30. He recorded four tackles, including 1.5 for loss, and led all edge defenders nationally with 14 quarterback pressures.

"I think George did a great job, gave us great effort," Brohm said. "He fought his butt off the entire game. We probably need to do some better things to give him a chance to get to the quarterback instead of just rushing around the edge. We need to mix in some games and stunts and things that give him the ability to rush in different ways. I think that will help him.

"But as far as playing hard, giving great effort, competing the entire game, he did an outstanding job."
