WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.
- Nick McDowell and Natalie Mudd won events at an in-state meet and Trent Pellini posted a top-five finish at a large meet in his native Southern California, highlighting a weekend of long course action for Purdue swimmers competing this summer.

Racing as part of Boilermaker Aquatics at the VisitBloomington.com Invite held at IU's Consilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center, McDowell won the 1,500-meter freestyle and Mudd was victorious in the 100-meter backstroke. McDowell posted a top-five finish in all three of his freestyle events. Jackson Higgins, Taite Kitchel and Jackie Smailis all finished as the runner-up in an event while joining McDowell and Mudd with at least a pair of top-five showings. Kaersten Meitz, Danielle Auckley and Emily Meckstroth also took second in an event.

At the Fran Crippen Memorial Swim Meet of Champions in Mission Viejo, California, Pellini finished fourth among a field of 50 swimmers in the 50-meter breaststroke. He improved on his time over the course of the prelims (29.53), semifinals (29.29) and final (29.02), moving up from sixth place in the prelims and semis.

As part of a busy Sunday in which he was entered in three events, Pellini also placed sixth among a field of 106 in the prelims of the 100 breast. But he opted not to race in the event again. He took his second swim in the B final of the 100 butterfly, finishing fourth (12th overall).

Fellow Southern California natives Erik Juliusson and Michael Smith also raced at the Swim Meet of Champions. Juliusson finished 10th in the semifinals of the 50 fly after placing 12th among a field of 49 in the prelims. He was also a C finalist in the 100 fly. Smith finished 25th among a field of 100 in the prelims of the 200 fly.

The annual Indiana Senior State Championships are set for July 19 to 22 and also being held in Bloomington this year. Cady Farlow (200 breast) and Meitz (200 free) were victorious at Senior State last summer. USA Swimming's Phillips 66 National Championships are the following week (July 25-29) in Irvine, California.
