Watch: Amaltdinov Wins 200 Breast / Kitchel 200 Fly Record / Meitz Finishes Mile Record
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Headlined by six event victories, 35 Boilermakers scored in at least one individual event at swimming & diving's Purdue Invitational, which featured an elite field of 10 universities.
Kaersten Meitz led the way by sweeping the women's distance freestyle events, setting new program records in both the 500 and 1,650 free. Marat Amaltdinov (200 breaststroke), Joe Cifelli (1-meter diving), Brandon Loschiavo (platform diving) and Morgan Meixner (1-meter diving) also won events for the Boilermakers.
As one of six Boilermakers to score in three individual events, Meitz was Purdue's top scorer. The senior accounted for 57 team points via her two event victories along with a runner-up finish in the A final of the 200 free. Danielle Auckley and Taite Kitchel joined Meitz as the only Boilermakers to score in the A final (or top-eight equivalent) of three different individual events. Kitchel would have scored in four championship finals, but was scratched from the A final of the 400 individual medley Friday to focus on the 100 fly. She eclipsed the program record in the 200 fly the following night.
Trent Pellini, Emmy Rawson and Emily Bretscher also scored in three individual events. Pellini and Bretscher accomplished the feat as freshmen.
