WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.--The Purdue wrestling team opens dual competition in Holloway Gymnasium on Sunday by hosting the Boilermaker Duals. Four teams will compete on two mats throughout the day with the first of three duals starting at 10 a.m. ET.
The Boilermakers are coming off of the Eastern Michigan Open where 11 grapplers placed on Nov. 6. It has been seven years since three-or-more opponents were hosted in a single day, the last being the Purdue Duals on Dec. 20, 2009. The home opener is also the earliest since 2012 when the Boilermakers took on Old Dominion and Missouri on Nov. 10 in Holloway Gymnasium.

A CLOSER LOOK AT THE BOILERMAKERS
- Six of Purdue's primary starters from last season are listed as probables for the Boilermaker Duals, five of which are at the same weight ... redshirt senior and 2016 NCAA qualifier Alex Griffin is the lone change as he bumps up to 157 pounds for his final campaign.
- The past two seasons Luke Welch has started 25 out of a possible 35 duals ... last season he was the 133-pound starter in 16 of 17 duals ... he has made eight consecutive starts heading into the Boilermaker Duals, the most among Purdue's probable lineup.
- A start on Sunday would be a career first for Austin Nash, Kyle Todrank, Nate Limmex, Cole Wysocki, Dylan Lydy, Gavin Murray, Christian Brunner and Shawn Streck.
- With the graduation of Danny Sabatello, redshirt senior Kyle Ayersman looks to become the mainstay at 141 pounds ... Ayersman owns a career record of 48-26, but has only appeared in six duals ... twice last season he filled in at 149 pounds ... his four other starts came at 133 pounds as a redshirt freshman in 2013-14.
- The Boilermakers opened the season with 11 placewinners at the Eastern Michigan Open ... redshirt senior Tyler Kral turned in the highest finish for Purdue with a runner-up showing at heavyweight ... Kral posted three shutout decisions as well as a major decision for the highest tournament finish of his career.
- With 38 back points at the EMU Open, Griffin jumped to No. 10 in the career record listing with 190 ... he's already more than halfway to his back point total from 2015-16 ... Jacob Morrissey will jump on the list with just one two-point nearfall ... he has 122 in his two seasons.
- With four technical falls at the EMU Open, Griffin has already matched a season best from his rookie campaign in 2013-14 ... he had three straight tech falls at the tournament and outscored his competition 67-4 ... the last time a Boilermaker had won three or more consecutive matches by technical fall was Dec. 20, 2009, when Logan Brown strung together four.
- Six wrestlers registered their first career win at the EMU Open: Brunner, Limmex, Lydy, Murray, Streck, Todrank and Cole Wysocki ... Brunner's first two matches were won via major decision by a combined score of 24-2 ... both Brunner and Streck wrestled unattached.
- Streck opened with a bang, sticking Chase Carter of Tiffin in 1:25 ... a narrow 9-7 loss sent him into the wrestlebacks, but he rattled off five consecutive wins to take fifth ... among those wins was a 13-3 major decision ... in seven matches he was taken down just once, compared to 21 takedowns of his own.
- Blake Reid pinned Chris Droege of Lake Erie in 25 seconds ... the 25-second fall is the fastest since Braden Atwood's 21-second pin of SIU Edwardsville's Chris Johnson on Nov. 24, 2013 ... it was also the first of Reid's career.
