LUBBOCK, Texas - Senior Anna Appert Lund put together another solid individual round Saturday to lead the Purdue women's golf team to a second-place showing at the Red Raider Invitational, hosted by Texas Tech at The Rawls Course. The Boilermaker senior shot even-par for the day to finish third at the tournament at two-under, 214, while the team shot 16-over, 880, to finish in the top-five of their fourth straight event.
Saturday's course proved incredibly tough for every team but the event hosts as Texas Tech shot one-under, 287, to rally for the team title, and top Purdue by 13 strokes. No other team shot better than 10-over for the day, as the Boilermakers tied for the fourth-best team score of the day at 16-over par, 304.
Only one individual shot under par Saturday, as Texas Tech's Sarah Brown was four-under, 68, to surge to second place behind individual medalist Yupaporn Kawinpakorn of Kansas, who was seven-under, 209, for the tournament. Appert Lund was one of five players in the field to shoot 72 on Saturday, securing her team-high fourth top-10 individual performance this season.
Appert Lund made a team-best four birdies Saturday, getting two on each side to secure her top 54-hole mark of the season, and tie the best for a Boilermaker in 2015-16. Joining her in the top-10 was freshman Ida Ayu Indira Melati Putri, who shot five-over, 77, Saturday to place ninth at a career-best four-over, 218. It is the first career top-10 showing for the Purdue rookie and her best tournament showing as a Boilermaker. Sophomore Marta Martin tied Putri on the scorecard Saturday with a 77, while freshman Covadonga SanJuan logged the fourth and final team score at six-over, 78, and tied for 18th place, individually, at seven-over, 221.
The Boilermakers have two weeks before the start of the postseason, traveling to nearby Indianapolis for the 2016 Big Ten Championships on April 22-24 at The Fort Golf Course.
