Day One Results / Round 3 Tee Times
LUBBOCK, Texas - The Purdue women's golf team got off to a great start Friday at the 2016 Red Raider Invitational, hosted by Texas Tech at The Rawls Course. The Boilermakers are even par after 36 holes, shooting three-over, 291, on the first 18, and a season-best three-under, 285, in the second round, led by a career-best three-under, 69, by freshman Ida Ayu Indira Melati Putri.
The Boilermakers got things going behind the play of senior Anna Appert Lund as she drained five birdies on her way to a season-best round of four-under, 68. Appert Lund was one-over after her first six holes, and after pars on No. 11, 12 and 13, she proceeded to birdie three of the next four holes and then No. 2 and 3 as she wrapped back to the front-nine. She is the second Boilermakers to post a 68 this season, joining junior teammate August Kim, and the mark ties her best performance as a Boilermaker, matching a four-under, 67, from the 2015 Hurricane Invitational.
Freshman Covadonga SanJuan continued her recent solid play in the first round, sinking 15 pars on her way to a one-over, 73, while Putri and Kim offered up the other two team scores at two-over, 74, and four-over, 76, respectively.
The second-round was time for Putri's takeover as the Boilermaker rookie was flawless through 13 holes, dropping her score to four-under with an eagle on the par 5, No. 2. She slipped up with bogeys on No. 3 and No. 6, but finished up the round with her third birdie, a 3 on the par 4 seventh.
Kim rebounded from her opening round to shoot two-under, 70, recording four birdies on the scorecard, while SanJuan made four birdies on her way to a mark of even par. Appert Lund struggled early in her second round, but matched Putri's eagle on No. 2 and made par the rest of the way in to shoot two-over, 74.
Appert Lund leads the Boilermakers in the individual standings, tied for third at two-under, 142, followed closely by Putri, who is tied for fifth at one-under, 143. SanJuan is tied for 12th at one-over par, 145, and Kim is tied for 15th at two-over, 146.
No. 25 BYU has a one-stroke lead on the Boilermakers, shooting seven-under, 137, in the second round, while Kansas is one shot back from Purdue after a six-under, 138, in the second round. The Jayhawks' Yupaporn Kawinpakorn owns the individual lead at seven-under, 137, paced by her score of six-under, 66, on the second 18.
Play resumes tomorrow at 10 a.m. ET.
