CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The Purdue women's golf team opened play at the sixth-annual Hurricane Invitational on Monday, hosted by the University of Miami at The Biltmore Golf Course, shooting a 10-over, 294, to sit tied for ninth place in the team standings. The sophomore duo of Linn Andersson and Marta Martin posted matching scores of even-par, 71, to lead the way as the Boilermakers are just four shots out of fifth place heading into the second day of competition.

Martin led the team effort with a trio of birdies, including two on the back-nine, while Andersson made a pair herself and freshman Covadonga SanJuan dropped in two as well. Senior Anna Appert Lund sunk three birdies, adding to her team lead in the category, but struggled on a few other holes as she and junior August Kim turned in the other two team scores at five-over, 76. Freshman Ida Ayu Indira Melati Putri played as an individual Monday, dropping four birdies on her way to a score of two-over, 73.

Most of the Boilermakers' best holes came on the front-nine Monday, accounting for eight of their 11 birdies and a collective team score of just three-over par. The back-nine added 15 strokes over par, including a pair of triple bogeys and two double bogeys.

Big Ten rival Northwestern sits on the team lead, carving up the course at seven-under, 277, to hold a four-shot lead on Iowa State, which was the only other team under par. Anderrson and Martin are tied for 11th in the individual standings, four shots behind Northwestern's Hannah Kim, who posted the top round at four-under, 67. Three players are tied for second at three-under, 68, while three more shot two-under, 69.

Play resumes tomorrow at 7:30 a.m. ET, as the Boilermakers will tee off on the back-nine alongside Texas State and Texas Tech.
