The No. 20 Purdue women opened up a 32 ½-point lead on No. 17 Louisville in the tightly-contested team scores.
Fogle won heat three of the 100 breaststroke in the preliminaries with an NCAA Automatic qualifying time of 59.34. She eclipsed her program record of 59.53 from the 2012 Big Ten Championship. When she broke the 100 breast record last season, it was Purdue's longest-standing current benchmark. She opted not to swim in the 100 breast in the evening finals but did help the 200 medley relay team win the event to begin the night.
Rhiannon Sheets' anchor leg performance in the 800 freestyle relay highlighted the come-from-behind win for the Purdue women. The sophomore closed the race with an event-best split of 1:45.72 to surge past Louisville's anchor, making up a two-second deficit en route to a two-second win. Carly Mercer, Alex Todd and Allie Davis teamed up with Sheets on the 800 free relay team. Individually, Sheets and Mercer also finished 2-3 behind the Louisville winner in the 200 free.
Jacie Beagle, Kylie Vogel and Lauren Gustafson teamed up with Fogle on the 200 medley relay victory. Fogle's 50 yard breaststroke split of 27.34 was by far the fastest posted by any competitor on that leg of the event.
Tracy Glaser (100 breast) and Gustafson (100 back) each touched first in their C finals. Brittany Fozkos won preliminary heats in the 100 back and 100 fly in the morning session.
The Purdue Invitational concludes Sunday with swimming preliminaries at 10 a.m., platform diving at noon, the mile at 2 p.m. and event finals at 4 p.m.
