Women's Golf Tied For Sixth At Liz Murphey Classic

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's golf team opened with a five-over par 293 on Friday at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic in Athens, Ga., and sits in a tie with Kent State in sixth place. The Boilermakers are 15 strokes behind the leader, No. 2 Alabama (278).

Junior Laura Gonzalez-Escallon fired the Boilermakers' low round with a two-under par 70 and is tied for sixth. Alabama's Jennifer Kirby carded a six-under par 66 to lead after the first day. Teammate Brooke Pancake is in second place with a four-under par 68.

Redshirt junior Kishi Sinha is tied for 16th after shooting an even-par 72 on Friday and junior Paula Reto shot a 74 and is tied for 34th. Reto is coming off an individual medal at the Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate in Augusta, Ga., where she fired a school-record 207.

Freshman Aurora Kan was one off her career-low round with a 77 and is tied for 61st while freshman Vicky Scherer carded a 79 and is tied for 77th.

Host No. 12 Georgia is in second place with a 284, while No. 27 South Carolina is third with a 285, No. 16 Florida is fourth at 286 and No. 28 Virginia is fifth, six strokes ahead of No. 33 Purdue with a first-round total of 287.

The Boilermakers will tee of from hole No. 1 beginning at 9 a.m. ET on Saturday and will be paired with Florida State and Oklahoma. The Liz Murphey Classic is being held at the University of Georgia Golf Course which is set up as a par-72, 6,335-yard venue for the 40th annual tournament.
