Davis Qualifies For NCAAs

March 3, 2012

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Purdue men's track and field team had an individual qualify for the NCAA Championships on Saturday. Geoff Davis finished second in the high jump at the Alex Wilson Invitational.

Davis needed to have a season best in order to have a chance to qualify for the NCAAs. The junior did not get off to the start he wanted, but rallied in a big way. Davis first tried to clear 2.07m (6-09.50), but missed on his first attempt. He was able to clear on his second, though. Next, Davis cleared 2.12m (6-11.50) on his first attempt. Davis then moved to 2.17m (7-01.50), but again was unable to clear on his first attempt. However, the junior high jumper was able to compose himself on the next jump and cleared.

Davis next decided to try for 2.23m (7-03.75), a mark that would be a season best. The junior was unable to clear on his first and second attempt meaning that his NCAA hopes would come down to one jump. On that final all important jump, Davis was able to clear the bar putting him at eighth best in the country and an NCAA qualifier.

Davis joins Leah Eber and Dani Bunch as Boilermakers to qualify for the NCAA Championships. The championships being on Friday, March 9th, in Boise, Idaho.
