WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Despite a three-under par 69 by junior Paula Reto and an improvement of 11 strokes as a team, the sixth-ranked Boilermakers were not able to move up the leaderboard in the second round at the 2011 Mason Rudolph Fall Preview in Franklin, Tenn., and remain in 18th place.
The Mason Rudolph is being played at the Vanderbilt Legends North Course, the site of the 2012 NCAA Championships. The field includes 14 of the top-15 ranked teams in the nation and all 18 teams competing are ranked in the top 25.
Top-ranked UCLA (296-283=579, +3) claimed the top spot with one round to play by firing a 283 on Saturday. No. 3 Alabama (296-289=585, +9) is in second place and No. 9 North Carolina (298-290=588, +12) took over the third spot.
Alabama's Jennifer Kirby (72-66=138, -6) turned in the low round of the day with a six-under par 66 to move into first place as an individual. She holds a four-stroke lead over Tiffany Lua of UCLA.
Reto was one of five golfers to record a 69 in the second round. She improved to a tie for 15th after firing a 77 on Friday for a two-round total of 146.
Junior Laura Gonzalez-Escallon got back on track on Saturday with a one-over par 73. The La Hulpe, Belgium, native is one of Golf World's 50 players to watch this season and is tied for 51st with one round to go with a score of 153.
Freshman Aurora Kan is tied for 74th with a total of 157 (77-80). Redshirt junior Kishi Sinha followed up her 79 with an 80 in the second round and is tied for 81st with a score of 159. Junior Jam Vilairatana is tied for 89th (82-81=163).
