CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - The Purdue men's and women's cross country teams had successful season-opening races at the Illinois Invitational on Friday as the women took second place and the men third.
Dani Sullivan was the top finisher for the women as she finished in fifth place with a 4K time of 15:09. Marie Lorentz finished in seventh place and second on the team after crossing the finish line in 15:16. Linsey Daluga took home 10th place after running a 15:23.
On the men's side, Dominic DeSantis was the top performer for Purdue. The junior finished the 6K in 19:26 and took home seventh place points. Robert Stewart was the second finisher for the Boilermakers as he took home 14th place points with a time of 19:45, just fractions of a second behind the 13th place finisher. Freshmen Allan Appiah and Blake Mills finished with 16th and 17th place points respectively with times of 19:50 and 19:57.
Butler claimed the women's victory while Illinois won the men's race for the seventh consecutive year.
The Boilermakers return to action next Saturday, Sept. 10, at the IPFW Invitational in Fort Wayne, Ind. The women are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. ET with the men to follow.
