WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue soccer team kept on the attack Friday night and finally broke through in the second half to post a 2-0 win over Illinois State at the Varsity Soccer Complex. The Boilermakers dominated play throughout while Illinois State chose to lay back and pack it in on defense.

The first half went by without much action, with Purdue registering seven shots to Illinois State's two. Junior Loredana Riverso tallied the first four shots for the Boilermakers and junior Sylvia Forbes picked up one shot on goal that was stopped by the Redbird defense.

Purdue kicked it up another notch coming out of halftime, firing two shots in the first 30 seconds. In the 59th minute, freshman Lauren Montenegro put the Boilermakers on the board with her first career goal. She took a header from a corner kick by freshman Kellie Phillips and the Boilermakers never looked back from there.

Freshman Britney Scott got in on the action in the 70th minute. The Redbird defense misplayed a ball right in front of their own goal and Scott was waiting at the 18-yard line. Her first career tally put Purdue up 2-0 and the rest was history.

Junior Jenny Bradfisch and the Purdue defense once again put forth a stellar effort. Bradfisch picked up two saves in the shutout effort, while Forbes and sophomores Liz Secue and Jessica Stellhorn thwarted any Illinois State attack all night long.

The Boilermakers hit the road tomorrow as they get ready to take on Louisville. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
