WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.
– Purdue Baseball’s final fall ball exhibition game at Alexander Field has been moved up a day as Akron visits campus Saturday for a 12:30 p.m. first pitch.

The game was originally scheduled for Sunday but was moved up due to rain in the forecast. The teams have agreed to play 14 innings regardless of the score. Admission is free for all fall ball events at Alexander Field.

It sets up as a full day for the program as the Boilermakers will be recognized as the Team of the Game on Saturday night at Ross-Ade Stadium as Purdue Football hosts Minnesota. The players will be featured on the field/videoboard during a first-quarter timeout.

Due to the football game, parking for the Saturday afternoon exhibition vs. Akron is allotted adjacent to the Grand Prix track west of Alexander Field. Many of the lots surrounding Alexander and Bittinger Stadium are reserved for RV parking on football gamedays. Parking adjacent to the Grand Prix track will remain free for fans attending the game at Alexander.

Purdue and Akron have played a pair of four-game series against each other this decade, both at the North Main Athletic Complex (formerly Ting Stadium) in Holly Springs, N.C. The Boilermakers won three of four in both series. Akron won a 2-1 pitcher’s duel in the 2023 series opener before Purdue erupted for 53 runs over the final three games of the series. In 2025, the Zips overcame three consecutive home runs by the Boilers in a game-tying seventh inning rally, winning in 11 innings to prevent a Purdue sweep. A shutout victory and a pair of run-rule wins helped the Boilers outscore Akron 32-7 over the other three games of the series.

Former Akron head coach Bryan Faulds, who coached the Zips for the last three seasons, stepped down in August to become an assistant coach at Washington. Purdue hosts UW for the first time this coming season, with the Big Ten series set for the final weekend of April as part of an extended homestand at Alexander Field. Brian Valentine is serving as Akron’s acting head coach.
