Boilers Fight to a 2-2 Draw at Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Purdue battled Penn State to a 2-2 draw Friday night at Jeffrey Field. Despite the Boilers taking a 2-1 lead, the Nittany Lions evened the score to end in Purdue’s second draw of the season.

The Boilermakers moved to 10-1-2 overall and 4-1-1 in Big Ten play. 

Penn State struck first in the 15th minute when Paige Kalal converted a penalty kick to give the Nittany Lions a 1-0 advantage.

Purdue answered in the 28th minute. Megan Santa Cruz found the back of the net for her sixth goal of the season, with Jaiden Anderson and Rosa Maalouf credited with assists. The goal evened the match at 1-1, a score that held through halftime.

The Boilermakers took their first lead of the night early in the second half. In the 62nd minute, Anderson scored her 11th goal of the season to put Purdue ahead 2-1.

Penn State responded less than four minutes later, scoring in the 66th minute.

The Nittany Lions applied pressure late, but Wolf turned away three shots in the final 13 minutes. 

Anderson led Purdue with two shots on target, one goal and one assist. Santa Cruz recorded one goal on two shots, including one on target, while Irene Campo added one shot on target. 

Wolf played all 90 minutes and recorded four saves.
