MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Purdue soccer earned its sixth victory, remaining unbeaten through seven matches, delivering a 3-0 victory over Middle Tennessee State Thursday night at Dean A. Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium.
With the victory over the Blue Raiders, Purdue finishes its non-conference schedule unbeaten for the first time since the 2000 season.
The Boilermakers improved to 6-0-1 on the season behind three goals, including two from McKenzie Carle, while Krystina Wolf recorded five saves to earn her sixth victory and fifth shutout of the season. Purdue outshot Middle Tennessee 18-8 and held a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Irene Campo put the Boilermakers ahead in the third minute, finding the back of the net at 2:33 off assists from Kate Noel and Tanna Schornstein. The goal was Campo's third of the season, her first non-penalty goal.
Purdue doubled its advantage in the 32nd minute when Carle scored her fourth goal of the season. Jaiden Anderson provided the assist, giving Purdue a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
Purdue continued to control play after the break, earning five corner kicks and limiting Middle Tennessee to six second-half shots.
The Boilermakers added an insurance goal in the 86th minute. Carle found the back of the net at 85:41 for her second goal of the night and fifth of the season, to push the Purdue advantage to 3-0.
Purdue’s offense ranks among the nation’s best and looks to continue its momentum heading into its first Big Ten match against UCLA Thursday, Sept. 10.
