PASADENA, Calif. — Despite another strong offensive performance, the Purdue football team fell at UCLA, 52-38, late Saturday night at Rose Bowl Stadium.

Quarterback Ryan Browne set a career high in passing yards for the third consecutive week, completing 19-of-30 passes (63.3%) for 378 yards and three touchdowns. He joined Jim Everett in 1985 as the only Boilermakers to eclipse 300 passing yards in each of the first three games of a season. It marked the 10th time in school history a Purdue quarterback has produced three consecutive 300-yard passing games.

Wide receivers Xavier Townsend and Asaad Waseem also posted career bests, becoming Purdue's first duo to each record over 100 receiving yards in a game since David Bell and Milton Wright against Northwestern at Wrigley Field on Nov. 20, 2021.

Townsend hauled in six passes for a career-high 162 yards and two touchdowns, becoming the first Boilermaker with multiple receiving touchdowns in a game since Deion Burks on Sept. 2, 2023. Waseem added a career-best 149 yards on a team-high eight receptions.

Running back Fame Ijeboi scored two touchdowns out of the Wildcat formation. His six touchdowns this season are the most by any player through their first three games as a Boilermaker since at least 1995, and the most rushing touchdowns scored at Purdue through the first three games of a season since Kory Sheets had eight in 2008.

Ijeboi finished with 17 carries for 47 yards and two touchdowns.

After UCLA scored on its opening possession, Purdue answered on its first play from scrimmage when Browne connected with Townsend on a crossing route for a 75-yard touchdown. It marked the longest scoring play of the head coach Barry Odom era and Purdue's first touchdown on its opening offensive play since Nov. 14, 2015, at Northwestern.

Tight end George Burhenn also found the end zone for the first time since the 2023 season finale against Indiana. Rolling out near midfield, Browne made a difficult throw on the run and found Burhenn for a 30-yard touchdown.

Trailing 38-28 in the third quarter, Purdue faced 4th-and-8 at its own 45-yard line. With the punt team on the field, punter Dylan Drennan took the snap and found a wide-open Antonio Harris, who raced to the UCLA 8-yard line for a 47-yard gain. It was the longest pass by a Big Ten Conference punter since Minnesota's Preston Gruening on Nov. 17, 2001.

UCLA (3-0, 1-0 B1G) totaled 645 yards of offense to Purdue's 488, including 369 rushing yards.

Don Saunders and John Slaughter led the Boilermakers (1-2, 0-1 B1G) on defense with 10 tackles apiece. Breeon Ishmail notched his first sack of the season and second of his career, bringing Bruins quarterback Nico Iamaleava down for a 10-yard loss in the second quarter.
