WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – A trio of golfers with Purdue ties, including two currently on the Boilermaker roster, will compete in the 126th United States Golf Association’s (USGA) Amateur Championship, held in Philadelphia, starting Monday.
The nation’s longest-running tournament will be contested at Merion Golf Club (main course) and the Philadelphia Country Club (stroke play course) starting on August 10. Three-hundred and twelve golfers will play 36 holes of stroke play to determine the top 64 players for match play. Match play will begin on Wednesday with round of 64 matches. Round of 32 and round of 16 matches will be played on Thursday. Quarterfinal matches will take place on Friday, semifinal matches on Saturday and the 36-hole championship match will take place on Sunday, August 16.
Senior Sam Easterbrook, sophomore Will Harvey and 2025 grad Kent Hsiao will all be competing next week in search of the U.S. Amateur Championship.
Easterbrook will be one of the first golfers on the course on Monday, teeing off at 7 a.m. ET (hole 10), on the Philadelphia Country Club, then playing Merion on Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. (hole 1).
Harvey joins him on the course at 8:21 a.m. ET (hole 10) on Merion, before playing the Philadelphia Country Club on Tuesday at 1:36 p.m. (hole 1).
Hsiao will tee off on hole 1 on Merion on Monday at 2:42 p.m., before shifting to the Philadelphia Country Club on Tuesday at 9:12 a.m.
A Purdue golfer hasn’t made the quarterfinals in the U.S. Amateur since 1984 (Bill Hoffer) and the last Boilermaker to reach match play came in 2022, when Peyton Snoeberger reached the round of 32.
The event will be the final competition of the summer for returnees Easterbrook and Harvey, who will return to campus following the U.S. Amateur to begin preparations for the 2026-27 season.
Easterbrook has had an outstanding summer, mostly in Europe. Easterbrook narrowly missed qualifying for The Open Championship twice, losing in a playoff in final qualifying, then finishing fourth out of 12 players in the “last-chance” qualifier at Birkdale. He also reached the quarterfinals of The Amateur Championship and the South of Ireland Men’s Amateur Open Championship. He was a participant in the European Amateur Team Championship for team England.
Easterbrook gained access to the U.S. Amateur by being a top-100 point leader in the WAGR rankings as of June 24. Easterbrook is currently ranked 80th in the WAGR rankings and has a strong chance to be selected to the International side of the Walker Cup.
Harvey, meanwhile, has had a quieter summer, finishing 47th at the prestigious Trans-Mississippi Amateur Championship and placing fourth at the U.S. Amateur qualifier in Illinois, to earn one of the seven spots handed out.
Hsiao, meanwhile, is currently ranked 104th in the WAGR rankings, earning access to the U.S. Amateur by being a top-100 point leader in the WAGR rankings as of June 24. He finished 30th this past summer at the prestigious Western Amateur.
Television coverage will start on Wednesday with the round of 64 matches, and last all the way through the championship match. NBCSN and Peacock will carry the first three days of match play, while the semifinals and finals will be televised on NBC, NBCSN and Peacock.
