INDIANAPOLIS – Purdue swimmers Dylan Burau, Keira Kask and Annabelle Swiney all won events to headline a host of top-five finishes for Boilermaker Aquatics at the annual Indiana Senior Long Course Championships, hosted by Indiana Swimming the weekend of July 16-19 at the IU Natatorium.
Burau swept the men’s backstroke events with victories in the 50-, 100- and 200-meter events. He posted lifetime bests in the 100 and 200.
Indianapolis-area natives Kask and Swiney each won an event and finished top three in a pair of others. Kask impressed in the butterfly events with a victory (and lifetime best) in the 200m, a runner-up showing in the 50m and a third-place finish in the 100m. She also had the top time in the prelims of the 200m IM, but opted to scratch the from the A final. Swiney improved on her prelim time by four seconds to win the 200m IM with a lifetime best mark of 2:21.11 in the final. The rising sophomore was also the runner-up in the 200m freestyle and third in the 400m free.
Lucas Byrd (50m breast), Alex Hotta (100m free) and Matt Rose (400m free) all took silver in an event for Boilermaker Aquatics. Walker Mattice (100m & 200m free, 50m back) joined Burau, Kask and Swiney as Boilermakers to finish top five in three different events.
Many of the Boilermakers that competed in long course meets this summer have qualified for USA Swimming’s summer showcases, including the Toyota National Championships (July 28-Aug. 1 in Irvine, Calif.) and TYR Futures Championships (July 29-Aug. 1 at five sites around the country).
Meanwhile, Kask was among the eight Boilermakers selected to race for the UniUSA Team at the FISU America Games this weekend (July 24-26) in Lima, Peru. Kate Mouser, Lara Phipps, Adele Sands, Maxwell Blume, Biko Hooper-Haviland, Evan Mackesy and Blake Rowe were also selected to represent the U.S. delegation in Peru. Campbell Scofield replaced Kask on the roster for this week.
