GLENDALE, Calif. – Purdue Women’s Golf took advantage of moving day at the Big Ten Championships, carding a second round 283 (+3) to vault up the leaderboard into second place with only 18 holes left to play. The Boilermakers (+7) are tied with Ohio State and 11 shots back of No. 2 USC (-4).
Purdue made a late charge on Saturday afternoon, as three Boilermakers birdied the par-5 18th. As a team, the Boilers have played the par 5s 3-under par through the first two rounds, ranking second in the field.
Lauren Timpf led Purdue on Saturday, firing a career-low 67 (-3) that featured five birdies. The Macomb, Michigan, native moved 33 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for ninth at 1-over. She produced a bogey-free front nine that featured birdies on a pair of par 4s, the third and seventh holes. Timpf finished strong with back-to-back birdies to complete her best round as a Boilermaker.
Freshman Luana Valero continued her stellar play. With her 69 (-1), she became the only player in the field to record an under-par round on each of the first two days of the conference tournament. Improving to 4-under through 36 holes, Valero finds herself in second and just one shot off the individual lead. She paces the field in par-4 scoring (-4) and ranks second with 10 birdies after two rounds of play.
Samantha Brown shot 72 (+2) in the second round to remain in the Top 15 of the individual leaderboard at 3-over. The sophomore birded the par-4 14th for the second straight day and finished her round with another birdie on the par-5 18th.
By moving into a tie for second, the Boilermakers will be in the final groups Sunday afternoon. Purdue will be paired alongside USC and Ohio State beginning at 12:40 p.m. ET (9:40 a.m. PT). Live final round coverage begins at 3:30 p.m. ET (12:30 p.m. PT) on Big Ten Network.
