Comeback Comes Up Short

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue women’s tennis team nearly posted a complete comeback, falling just shy as the squad fell to No. 48 Nebraska, 2-4. The Boilermakers began their comeback, posting two straight points after wins by Ida Clement and Emmi Kolyszko left the final two courts tied in its final set. The Huskers just edged the Boilermakers on one court to seal the dual.

With the result, Purdue falls to 6-8 (2-4 Big Ten) while No. 48 Nebraska extends its winning streak and moves to 11-5 (4-3 Big Ten).

The Boilermakers fought hard in doubles, with leads on the courts early on. The pair of Kathryn Wilson and Fatima Gutierrez won with a decisive 6-1 fashion despite the doubles point loss.

In singles, three Boilermakers came out on top in the opening set (Ida Clement, Kayal Gownder and Emmi Kolyszko). Clement picked up Purdue’s first point of the day to set the score 1-3, downing Conley Raidt 6-3, 6-4 for the court win. She was followed by Kolyszko’s victory in tiebreak fashion, 6-3, 7-6(4).
