JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. – Following a pair of weather delays, the first day of the Briar’s Creek Invitational was shortened to 18 holes rather than the original 36 scheduled for Monday. At the tournament’s halfway point, Purdue Women’s Golf finds itself in the middle of the pack and tied for seventh at 5-over.

Samantha Brown, Ashley Kim and Ella Weber shot 73 (+1), battling windy and rainy conditions. Brown bounced back from a rocky start, playing her final 15 holes 2-under par after bogeys on the first three holes. The sophomore made a team-high five birdies throughout the day, including three on par 5s. Kim’s round was highlighted by a bogey-free 11-hole stretch that featured a birdie on the par-4 13th. Following a 1-under 35 on the back nine, Weber returned to the front side to finish her round and closed out her day with a birdie at the par-5 fifth.

Luana Valero, the reigning Big Ten Freshman of the Week, made a team-high 14 pars en route to a 74 (+2) that contributed to the team’s score. After going 17 holes without a birdie, she found one on her last hole of the day to take some momentum into Tuesday’s final round.

Competing as an individual, freshman Ida Lindqvist fired a career-low 70 (-2) with the help of back-to-back eagles. After an eagle on the par-5 seventh, the Swede holed out for a deuce at the par-4 eighth, flipping her score into red figures. Lindqvist followed her eagles with eight pars and one birdie to go 5-under through her final 11 holes and secure her best round as a Boilermaker.

Due to the inclement weather on Monday, the tournament will be shortened to 36 holes for the second straight season. The Boilermakers wrap up play with a 9:30 a.m. ET shotgun start Tuesday morning alongside Big Ten foes Penn State (+5) and Iowa (+7).
