WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue’s 3-point record holder is on the short list for the Celsius 3-Point Championship. On Thursday, fifth year Madison Layden-Zay was named to the watch list for the event at the State College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on April 3 at 7:30 p.m. and will be aired on ESPN on Sunday, April 5.
The first player in Purdue history to connect on 250 3-pointers, Layden-Zay leads the team with 51 made triples on the year, while shooting 34.1% from behind the arc. The Kokomo, Ind., native opened the year hitting a 3-pointer in the first 17 games of the season. She has matched her career-high with six triples against Miami (OH) and Michigan State.
On Jan. 11, Layden-Zay made history with her 245th career triple to pass Karissa McLaughlin for Purdue’s all-time record, helping to fuel the Boilermakers’ comeback win over No. 23 Washington.
Layden-Zay is a career 34.9% shooter from distance, good for 15th program history. She has made a triple in 106 career games, second most over the last 25 years by a Boilermaker.
The last Boilermaker to compete in the State Farm College Slam Dunk & 3-Point Championships was Courtney Moses in 2014. Head coach Katie Gearlds won the 2007 edition.
