WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The NFL season kicked off over the weekend with seven former Boilermakers in action.

George Karlaftis became the first Boilermaker to play an NFL game in Brazil when he took the field vs. the Chargers in São Paulo. He recorded the Chiefs’ first sack of the season and finished with 2.0 tackles-for-loss.

Derrick Barnes earned a season-opening start for the Lions and finished tied for second on the team with six tackles. He produced one of Detroit’s two tackles-for-loss.

Charlie Jones continued his role as the Bengals' primary punt returner for a third consecutive season and added kick returning duties in the opener. He totaled three kick returns for 70 yards and one punt return for 23 yards. His punt return is tied for the second-longest of his NFL career.

Tyrone Tracy Jr. led the Giants with 10 carries and totaled 24 yards. He added two receptions for 11 yards. Tracy is coming off his first season in 2024 when he was third in the NFL in rookie rushing yards (839).

BOILERMAKERS AROUND THE NFL
• George Karlaftis (Kansas City) – Totaled three tackles, 2.0 tackles-for-loss and a sack in the Chiefs' opener against the Chargers in São Paulo, Brazil on Friday night.
• Derrick Barnes (Detroit) – Earned the start, registered six tackles (four solo) and added a tackle-for-loss against the Packers.
• Charlie Jones (Cincinnati) – Served as the Bengals' primary kick and punt returner and totaled three kick returns for 70 yards and one punt return for 30 yards in Cincinnati's win over Cleveland. 
• Tyrone Tracy Jr. (N.Y. Giants) – Had 10 carries for 24 yards and added two receptions for 11 yards at Washington. 
Payne Durham (Tampa Bay) – Earned the start, played 15 snaps on offense and 14 on special teams in Tampa Bay's win over the Falcons. 
• Sanoussi Kane (Baltimore) – Played 27 snaps on special teams and three on defense in Baltimore's opener on Sunday Night Football against the Bills. 
Marcus Mbow (N.Y. Giants) – Made his NFL debut and appeared in two snaps on offense at Washington.
