AURORA, Ontario – Purdue Women’s Golf jumped out to a fast start at the Canadian Collegiate Invitational, while dealing with a weather delay and a soggy Beacon Hall Golf Club on Monday (Sept. 22). The Boilermakers were 3-under early on, but some big numbers throughout the rest of the day dropped the team down the leaderboard and into ninth place (+16) after 18 holes.

Due to the delay, the first day of the tournament was reduced to one round, shortening the tournament from 54 holes to 36 holes over the two-day period.

Lauren Timpf birdied two of her first three holes on her way to a 1-under 71 to lead the Boilermakers in the opening round. After a par on her first hole of the day, the par-5 fourth, the sophomore made back-to-back birdies before rattling off 14 straight pars. Her lone miscue of the day was a bogey on her last hole, the par-3 third. The hole proved to be difficult, as all five Boilermakers made bogey. With her under-par round, Timpf finds herself in a tie for 11th on the individual leaderboard.

Carding a 74 (+2) was freshman Luana Valero. She began her round with a birdie at the par-4 sixth, and she added an eagle at the par-5 15th. Ashley Kim shot 75 (+3), recording a team-high three birdies throughout her round.

Competing as an individual, sophomore Samantha Brown fired a 70 (-2) to sit tied for sixth. The sophomore was 3-under through her first 13 holes without making a bogey.

Due to the wet course, the final round has been pushed back to a 9 a.m. ET shotgun start on Tuesday morning. The Boilermakers will be paired with Michigan State and South Florida, who are tied for seventh at 14-over.
