WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – A familiar name in the Purdue Basketball community will make its first appearance on the women’s basketball side this season, as head coach Katie Gearlds announced the addition of freshman Carley Barrett to the program.
Barret was a was a standout at Lafayette Central Catholic, averaging double figures in all four seasons. She guided the Knights to a pair of state runner-up honors, three regional titles and four sectional championships.
Barrett amassed 1,587 points in her career with 441 assists and 464 steals. She shot 44% from the field over her career while averaging 14.2 points per game.
As a senior last year, Barrett was named the Journal & Courier Readers Choice Female Athlete of the Year and co-Small Schools Girls Basketball Player of the Year. She tallied 14.2 points, 8.0 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 5.8 steals per game.
Barrett was a four-time all-conference honoree and a two-time IBCA Amall School All-State honoree.
A homegrown player, Barrett is the daughter of David Barrett who played for the Boilermakers’ men’s team from 1988-91 as a teammate of current head coach Matt Painter.
Her older brother Carson was a member of the national runner-up team in 2024 and reached two other Sweet 16s. He is currently a graduate assistant with the Boilermakers.
