ROSEMONT, Ill. – A record-breaking splash and dash for Hannah Hill and springboard sweep for Jordan Rzepka earned the seniors from Purdue Swimming & Diving Big Ten weekly awards after the Boilermakers' home-opening meet.
Hill was named the Big Ten Swimmer of the Week for the second time in her career. Rzepka was honored as the Big Ten Diver of the Week for the fourth time as a Boilermaker. Rzepka has joined Steven LoBue (2004-07) as Purdue's only divers to claim the Big Ten's weekly honor in four consecutive seasons.
Both seniors were victorious in a pair of events at the 10-team Dan Ross Indiana Intercollegiate on Saturday.
Hill eclipsed the program record in the 50 freestyle, which had stood since the 2013 Big Ten Championships, on the leadoff leg of the 200 free relay. For the young season, her time of 22.32 is the best in the Big Ten and sixth nationally. She also won the 50 free earlier in the meet and her heat of the 100 backstroke, finishing as the runner-up to teammate Abby Marcukaitis overall.
Rzepka swept the springboard events at the Indiana Intercollegiate for the second time in his career. He posted quality list scores of 394.60 on 1-meter and 431.25 on 3-meter as Purdue had five of the top six finishers in both events. Teammate Max Miller was the runner-up in both events, moving into 10th place in program history with a list total of 423.55 on 3-meter.
Hill has joined Maggie Love and Brady Samuels as active Purdue swimmers to be multi-time recipients of the Big Ten Swimmer of the Week award. Love and Samuels won events at the Indiana Intercollegiate for the fourth consecutive year Saturday.
The Boilermakers are back in action Friday, Oct. 25 for a co-ed dual meet at Missouri. Action begins at 11 a.m. ET.
