EAST LANSING, Mich. – Making her debut in the lineup, freshman Lauren Timpf paced Purdue Women's Golf throughout the first day of the Mary Fossum Invitational at Forest Akers Golf Club. Timpf recorded the team's lowest score in each of the first two rounds Sunday, including a one-under 71 in the opening round, to sit in a tie for 15th (+2) on the individual leaderboard through 36 holes.
As a team, the Boilermakers (+19) sit in the middle of the pack, seventh out of 15 after rounds of 292 (+4) and 303 (+15).
Timpf bogeyed her opening hole but shook off the nerves with four straight pars before a birdie at the par-3 12th got her back to even par. After a double bogey at No. 15, the freshman returned to the front side after carding a 37 (+1) on the back. She caught fire coming in, making birdies on three of her final five holes to move into red figures and secure her first under-par round as a Boilermaker. Timpf managed just one birdie during the afternoon wave, but her 75 (+3) proved to be Purdue's best in the second round.
Natasha Kiel was two shots back of Timpf at 4-over following rounds of 72 (E) and 76 (+4). The senor birdied her first hole of the day and got all the way to 2-under par with three birdies over a four-hole stretch on the back nine. A double bogey on the par-4 18th dropped Kiel to even, but she closed with four pars to complete the par-72 course at level par. The 18th hole proved to be Kiel's nemesis again during the second round as a triple bogey prevented her from having Purdue's best afternoon. She made 14 pars, two bogeys and one birdie to end the day with a 76.
Jocelyn Bruch carded a pair of 76s of her own to contribute to the team score. She finds herself tied at 8-over alongside fellow senior Momo Sugiyama, who added a 73 (+1) in the opening round before a rare roller coaster second round.
The Boilermakers have 18 holes to climb the leaderboard. Tuesday's final round begins at 8:30 a.m. ET with a shotgun start. Purdue is paired with FIU (+22) and Notre Dame (+28).
