Pro Boilers: Week 2

Nine former Boilermakers saw action across the league, a week highlighted by Cory Trice Jr.'s first interception in just his second career game.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Week 2 of the NFL season concluded following a Monday Night Football victory for the Atlanta Falcons over the Philadelphia Eagles. Nine former Boilermakers saw action across the league, a week highlighted by Cory Trice Jr.'s first interception in just his second career game.

Trice, a seventh-round pick in the 2023 draft for the Pittsburgh Steelers, made a leaping grab in the back of the end zone to pick off Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix in the third quarter. With Pittsburgh leading 10-0, the play prevented Denver from inching back into the game, ultimately resulting in a Steelers win.

Derrick Barnes improved his defensive output from Week 1, finishing tied for third on the Detroit Lions with five tackles (four solos). He also batted down a pass from Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield to force a punt late in the fourth quarter, his fourth career pass breakup.

Derrick Barnes, man. What a play to keep the Lions alive.

They're gonna get it back with about 35 seconds left.

George Karlaftis was instrumental in the Kansas City Chiefs' close win over the Cincinnati Bengals to move to 2-0 on the season. He finished with three stops (one solo) along with two quarterback hits and a third-down half-sack on Joe Burrow in the red zone, holding Cincinnati to a field goal attempt in the second quarter. On the Bengals' side, Charlie Jones returned one punt for nine yards.

Tyrone Tracy Jr. recorded his first career kick return for the New York Giants, providing good field position at the Giants' 32-yard line after a 28-yard return. Bucs tight end Payne Durham appeared in 16 offensive snaps, and rookie Sanoussi Kane tallied 27 special teams snaps against the Las Vegas Raiders.

In his first game of the season with the Cleveland Browns, David Bell logged three catches for 27 yards at Jacksonville before dislocating his hip in the third quarter, forcing him to miss the remainder of the game. Ja'Whaun Bentley, a team captain for the New England Patriots and former Purdue star, left the game versus Seattle in the first quarter with a shoulder injury and was also ruled out.

Active Purdue players went a combined 5-5 across the league in Week 2.
