FALL BALL EXHIBITION INFORMATION
Louisville at Purdue
Sunday, Sept. 15 at 1 p.m. ET
Alexander Field / West Lafayette, Indiana
Teams to play 14 innings regardless of score
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – As Purdue Baseball takes the field against Louisville for the third fall in a row for Sunday's 14-inning exhibition game, the Boilermakers are set to host U of L for the first time since March 2016.
First pitch at Alexander Field is slated for 1 p.m. ET and the teams are planning to play 14 innings regardless of score, which not be kept via the videoboard at the stadium. Admission is free for all fall ball events at Alexander. The concession stands will not be open Sunday so fans are invited to bring their own food and drink.
Purdue Athletics is planning to offer a live stats feed via StatBroadcast in conjunction with a free live video feed on the Purdue Baseball Facebook page. However, both offerings will not be archived for on-demand views after the 14 innings are complete.
The teams had near identical records in the spring – 33-24 (13-11 Big Ten) for Purdue and 32-24 (16-14 ACC) for Louisville.
The Boilermakers played Louisville every year from 2011 to 2017 – odd-numbered years in Kentucky, even numbered in West Lafayette – before the annual midweek matchup went on hiatus. In the fall of 2022, the teams began playing each other for one of their two allotted fall exhibition contests.
The Dean Family of Russiaville, Indiana, will again be represented on both teams. Brothers Parker and Mitchell Dean were a year apart as teammates at Western High School near Kokomo. Parker (Class of 2022) is a righthanded pitcher and Mitchell (Class of 2023) a lefty, though they were both two-way standouts at WHS.
Among Purdue's 30 newcomers this fall is Louisville graduate Brandon Anderson, a three-year letterwinner for the Cardinals and their Opening Day third baseman in 2023. Anderson is among the 13 new Boilermakers with previous Division I experience. His new teammates, Camden Gasser and Breck Nowik, both faced their former teams during Purdue's 2024 campaign and will do so again this coming spring. Conversely, new pitchers Lance Lauve and Michael Vallone both pitched against the Boilermakers in the spring.
Keenan Spence, Logan Sutter, Ty Gill and Gasser headline Purdue's returning starters. Meanwhile, Brody Chrisman was an Opening Day starter in 2024 and Nowik would have been if not for a broken hamate bone suffered on Groundhog Day that kept him from making his first plate appearance until St. Patrick's Day.
Among the returnees on the mound, Avery Cook (38 2/3 IP in 26 App) Carter Doorn (35 2/3 IP in 21 App) and Cole Van Assen (39 2/3 IP in 13 App) all threw at least 35 innings in the spring. Van Assen represented Purdue on the Big Ten All-Freshman Team after excelling as a midweek starter.
The Boilermakers also host Toledo for a fall exhibition game on Saturday, Oct. 12.
