TOLEDO, Ohio The Purdue men's golf team managed just 16 birdies, but made them when they counted late in round two to move into a tie for ninth after 36 holes at the elite Inverness Intercollegiate, held at the difficult Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio.
 
The Boilermakers tallied a 36-hole total of 19-over par 571 on the unconventional par-69 layout, firing rounds of 288-283 to sit in a ninth-place tie. No. 1-ranked and defending National Champion Auburn leads at 4-under par 548 to lead Texas Tech by five shots.
 
Purdue is just 11 shots behind fifth-place Vanderbilt and SMU at 8-over par. The College of Charleston is seventh at 11-over par, and Toledo is eighth at 18-over par, but has not finished its second round yet (darkness). Purdue is tied with Clemson and Wake Forest at 19-over par in ninth place.
 
Nels Surtani leads Purdue at 3-over par 141 (71-70), good for T-24th. Jenson Forrester is tied for 28th at 4-over par 142 (71-71), in his first rounds on the counting team for the Boilermakers.
 
Supapon Amornchaichan bounced back from a tough opening round, moving up 17 spots in round two, firing a 7-over par 145 (75-70), sitting in T-51 after 36 holes.
 
Sam Easterbrook is tied for 65th at 8-over par 146 (74-72), while Kent Hsiao is tied for 78th at 11-over par 149 (72-77).
 
Playing as an individual, Yilin Sun is tied for 65th at 8-over par 146 (71-75).
 
Round three is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. ET, on Tuesday at the Inverness Club.
