WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue Softball team (7-5) head to Marshall for the Thundering Herd Invitational. The Boilermakers will face Marshall, Radford and Butler for a total of five games in three days.

PURDUE AMONG THE BIG TEN
  • Purdue ranks among the Big Ten's top-5 in five statistical categories including fielding % (#2) and stolen bases (#3)

THAT'S OUTTA HERE
  • Purdue totaled three homers vs. SIU (2/25), with two by Moriah Polar and one by Olivia McFadden, accounting for five of the team's 13 runs.
  • The three homers tie as the second-most in program history and the most since 2016.

MORIAH POLAR'S RECORD-TYING HOMERS
  • Freshman Moriah Polar registered two home runs in the 13-6 victory vs. SIU (2/25), tying the Purdue program record for home runs in a single game.
  • Polar is the first Purdue freshman since 2015 to record two homers in a single game.

AMONG THE BIG TEN LEADERS: SAGE SCARMARDO
  • Sage Scarmardo ranks #2 in the Big Ten in three statistical categories including batting average (.462%), on-base % (.605) and hit by pitch per game (.45). Nationally, she ranks 11th in HBP per game and 17th in OB%.
IN THE CIRCLE: FRESHMAN JULIA GOSSETT
  • Freshman Julia Gossett leads the team with a 3-0 record and earned a save in the victory at USF in Week 2.
  • She led all Big Ten pitchers in ERA (0.44) after the first two weeks of play.
  • Gossett posted six strikeouts vs. SIU (2/24) through her 4.2 innings pitched, setting a career-high and tying a team season game-high.

SCOUTING THE MARSHALL BISON 

  • During the first weekend of the season, the Bison took on Big Ten opponents Penn State and Michigan State. The Bison beat Michigan state twice (1-0 and 10-1) and lost to Penn State (2-5).  
  • Sidney Bickel has obtained 21 hits and an OB% of .481 in 15 games. She is also 7-for-8 on stolen bases this season.  
  • In the circle, Bub Feringa has thrown for 30.1 innings, earning an ERA of 2.77. Feringa pitched all seven innings in their first game against Michigan State, only allowing four hits while striking out zero.  

SCOUTING THE RADFORD HIGHLANDERS 

  • The Highlanders are on a three-game losing streak, with quality losses to #3 Georgia, #21 Virginia Tech and Virginia.
  • Lexi Roberts is one of three players (Cassi Barbato and Abby Wilson) that has an OB% above .425. Roberts has also recorded 18 hits and is 9-for-9 on stolen base attempts.  
  • Abby Peace is 1-1 in the circle with an ERA of 3.76. Peace has struck out 17 batters and allowed 24 hits in 13 games.  

SCOUTING THE BUTLER BULLDOGS 

  • Sharing a familiar opponent as the Boilermakers, the Bulldogs lost to South Dakota twice (1-7; 0-5) after Purdue defeated them twice (8-2 and 5-2).  
  • In 44 at bats, Ella White has acquired an impressive 19 hits, eight RBI and 11 walks to lead the team. Also, White has earned a .705 SLB% and batting average of .432.  
  • Katie Petran is the Bulldogs' main pitcher throwing a total of 45 innings and winning all her appearances. In addition, Petran has recorded 26 strikeouts and an ERA of 2.64.
