SCOUTING THE MICHIGAN STATE SPARTANS
- The Spartans overall .249 batting average is led by #10 Macy Lee (.326), #23 Jessica Mabrey (.313) and #6 Mandy Esman (.261).
- Mabrey leads the team in hits (36), homeruns (6), RBI's (20) and runs (19) while Esman leads in doubles (11) and triples (2).
- Pitcher, #7 Ashley Miller, ranks ninth in the Big Ten conference for her 112 strikeouts.
- The pitching staff is led by Miller with a 3.92 ERA followed by #4 Faith Guidry (4.67) and #13 Madison Taylor (6.57).
LAST WEEK AT A GLANCE
- Purdue opened the week with a pair of wins: 9-1 five-inning victory vs. Butler followed by a 6-3 decision at Ohio State in the first game of the series.
- Purdue recorded a .269 batting average over its four games played last week.
- The Boilermakers' .500 batting avg. vs. Butler last Tuesday (W, 9-1). It was not only a season-best, but marked the second time in five years the Boilers have eclipsed a .500 batting avg. (other: .571 vs. Lafayette College, 3/15/19).
- Alex Echazarreta hit a home run in three consecutive games: vs. Butler and in the first two days at Ohio State.
- Olivia McFadden recorded her first career grand slam and second home run of the season.
- After posting five runs in the second inning vs. Butler on Tuesday, a mark that was the most in a single inning this year, the Boilermakers bested it on Saturday at Ohio State, pouring on seven runs in the third inning. It was the most runs in Big Ten frame since 2019 (vs. Penn State, 4/6/19).
- Purdue's 12 hits vs. Butler were the second most this year.
- The Boilermakers posted nine runs in both the Butler outing and Game 2 at Ohio State, tying as the second-most runs scored in a single game this season. The nine runs were also the most by a Boilermaker team vs. the Buckeyes this century.
HEATING UP
- After last week's results, the Boilermakers jumped seven spots in the RPI to No. 97.
- Purdue posted 24 runs over the last four games.
- The team's .500 batting avg. vs. Butler was not only a season-high, but the highest batting average in two seasons.
ALEX ECHAZARRETA AT THE PLATE
- Pitcher/designated player Alex Echazarreta leads the team in batting average (.328), slugging % (.603) and walks (21).
- The fifth year enters the final two weekends of conference play just two runs away from tying her season-best of 20 runs, set last year.
- Echazarreta posted a .600 batting average last week behind a team-leading six runs with six hits and a 1.600 slugging %.
