Fifteen Boilermakers, eight men and seven women, will don the Old Gold and Black on Friday in Madison. All 15 will return to the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course after UW hosted the Big Ten Championships two weeks ago.

The regional field features 34 women's teams and 31 men's programs. That includes four ranked squads in the men's race – No. 5 Wisconsin, No. 12 Butler, No. 17 Notre Dame and No. 25 Michigan – and three top-25 women's teams – No. 9 Notre Dame, No. 14 Michigan State and No. 23 Wisconsin. Two programs also are receiving votes in the latest polls, the Michigan State men and the Michigan women.

The NCAA Great Lakes Regional is hosted by Wisconsin for the first time since 2019 and for the seventh time since the Zimmer Championship Course debuted in 2009.

A LOOK BACK AT THE 2022 NCAA GREAT LAKES REGIONAL
At last year's NCAA Great Lakes Regional, the Purdue men placed eighth and the women were ninth on November 11, 2022, in Terre Haute, Indiana. Then-sophomore Nathan Walker paced the men's squad in the 10k race and then-senior Emma Tate earned the women's team's best finish in the 6k event on a cool, overcast day.

Six of Purdue's 14 runners notched personal-best times on Friday, and another three ran their respective distances for the first time.

LAST TIME OUT: BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Boilermaker men finished fourth and the women were 12th at the 2023 Big Ten Cross Country Championships in Madison on October 27.

Walker led the team with a 12th-place finish to earn All-Big Ten Second Team honors, Purdue's best individual Big Ten finish since the 2020-21 championships. Junior Emma Squires led the women with a 34th place finish, her best career Big Ten Cross Country placement.

The men were fourth overall for their best finish in three years and their sixth top-five finish in the last seven years. That top-five streak, which began in 2017, was preceded by five total top-five finishes from 1951-2016. The only other time in program history where the Boilermakers finished in the top five more often than the current stretch was when they recorded 14 top-five finishes in 15 seasons from 1931-1950.

Squires and Walker were two of eight Boilermakers – five men and three women – who notched their best career Big Ten Cross Country finishes. Additionally, 13 runners competed at their first Big Ten Championships of any kind, either cross country or track & field.
