TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Purdue cross country team finished eighth and ninth at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships on Friday morning in Terre Haute, Indiana.

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Purdue cross country team finished eighth and ninth at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships on Friday morning in Terre Haute, Indiana.
 
Sophomore Nathan Walker led the men's squad in the 10k race and senior Emma Tate earned the women's team's best finish in the 6k event on a cool, overcast day at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course. Six of Purdue's 14 runners notched personal-best times on Friday, and another three ran their respective distances for the first time.
 
In the team standings, the men collected 266 points to finish eighth and the women earned 307 points to place ninth. Wisconsin (50 points) and Notre Dame (61) were first and second for the men, while Notre Dame (33) and Ohio State (111) were the top two women's team finishers.
 
Purdue was one of 31 women's teams, and 29 men's squads, racing for team and individual berths at the 2022 NCAA Cross Country Championships. There were 219 women's finishers and 196 men's finishers at Friday morning's regional meet.
 
Four of Purdue's seven men's runners posted personal-record times, while the other three ran in their first collegiate 10k event.
 
At his first NCAA Regional, Walker set the tone with a 10k time of 30:44.5 to place 31st. Senior Andrew Brandt finished 44th overall in 31:01.1 and junior Caleb Williams was 55th in 31:15.9. Senior Bryce Hutchinson was 66th in 31:30.7, followed closely behind by sophomore Brady Yoder's 31:33.0 in 70th and freshman Jason Polydoris' 31:35.2 in 72nd. Junior Alex Frey was 83rd with a mark of 31:51.9.
 
Brandt, Frey, Hutchinson and Yoder all ran their fastest collegiate 10k times and Polydoris, Walker and Williams raced in their inaugural 10k.
 
Tate was 43rd overall to lead the women thanks to a time of 21:07.1 on the 6k course, as she moved up seven spots in the final 2k. Sophomore Emma Squires was close behind in 54th in 21:18.5 and junior Payne Turney finished in 21:34.9 to place 65th, rising seven spots in the last 2k. Senior Ellie Tate was 71st in 21:46.4, jumping up six places in the final 2k. Sophomore Lauren Bales and junior Caroline Jordan were right behind Bales, in 74th and 75th with marks of 21:50.6 and 21:51.1, respectively. Junior Katelyn Wasson finished 84th in 22:02.0.
 
A pair of Boilermakers, Bales and Jordan, registered personal-best 6k times on Friday.
