CHESTERTON, Ind. – Purdue junior Nels Surtani shot a final-round 70 to put the finishing touches on a dominating performance to win the 2023 Northern Amateur at Sand Creek Country Club in Chesterton, Indiana.
It marked the second straight year that Surtani has won the Northern Amateur after claiming last year's title at 6-under par 210 (68-72-70), winning by three shots.
This year, Surtani one-upped last year's performance, outdistancing the field by a whopping five shots, firing a 54-hole total of 15-under par 201 (66-65-70).
Surtani entered the final round with a six-shot lead over Calen Sanderson of Newtown, Pennsylvania.
Teammate Luke Prall, fresh off qualifying for the the U.S. Amateur, finished tied for third at 8-under par 208 (65-73-70).
The win is Surtani's third amateur title over the last two summers, also winning the 2022 Northern Amateur and the 2022 Golfweek Hoosier Amateur.
