WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue Wrestling had three individuals earn Scholar All-America honors from the National Wrestling Coaches Association on Friday, pushing the total of academic award winners under head coach Tony Ersland to 23.
Senior Parker Filius became just the third wrestler in program history to be a four-time Scholar all-American, joining recent graduate Max Lyon and 2012 alumnus A.J. Kissel. Sophomore Matt Ramos earns the award for the second straight season and is now one of 12 wrestlers to have received the honor multiple times.
Freshman Hayden Filipovich joins Ramos on a list of just four freshmen in Purdue history to earn NWCA academic honors in their first season. In his nine seasons at the helm, Ersland has now accounted for 23 of the Boilermakers' 47 NWCA Scholar All-America award winners in addition to three of the four overall team honors.
In total, 291 wrestlers from 73 institutions were recognized for their academic achievements and commitment to the sport of wrestling.
